Dental Implants - Sinus Lift

Dental Implants - Sinus Lift

A successful dental implant surgery can not be performed if you have sufficient depth of bone in your jaw. Unfortunately, however, if you have lost teeth, the bone support if they atrophy and lose substance. Therefore often not enough time to support an implant bone. To increase the amount of bone in the maxilla, we undertake a sinus lift. This process involves bone graft material into the maxillary sinus immediately above the upper jaw and the height and width of the material, into which we place an implant to increase.

We take instead of this operation is usually at the same time as us, the actual implant. You will receive both oral sedation and local anesthesia, so that the entire process is comfortable and pain free. We start by creating a flap in the tissue for the gums, where the sinuses boarders. The sinuses are then opened. First, we lift the floor of the maxillary sinus, a space for bone graft material to create. Bone graft material is then packed into the room and the wound is closed with sutures.

We will usually go then the implant. Healing takes 6 months, the space for the time for the implants are fully ossified required in the jaw bone.

The sinus lift is a well established and routine pain-operation. may experience some slight swelling, but these usually after one or two days. Other side effects are rare.

Very frequently the roots of the upper back teeth will protrude into these sinuses. Then when one or more of these teeth need to be removed there is not much supportive bone left between the maxillary sinus and the mouth. This is a problem for dentists and their patients because it means there is very little natural bone in which to anchor a dental implant.
